Getting to know the sounds


Pronunciation Practice

Class participation t 20%, it comprises:
·         Attending class regularly
·         Weekly assignments
·         Team project (Research Project 1 and 2)

Research Project
1: 3D Articulatory Anatomy Model
  1. A group of no more than 5 people to construct a 3D sagittal section model
  2. Any kind of medium, incl. paper mache, plaster, or wires
  3. The 3D replica should measure a normal size human head & a normal sized vocal tract

2: Voice Recording
  1. Record your voice reading the given list of words and sentences in one time.
  2. Listen & analyse your own sound production
  3. Use any recording application (or Audacity) & save as an mp3 file

Weekly Assignments
  • Assignment will be assigned every TWO weeks.
  • Each of the assignment should be uploaded on the class website on the 2 Monday and 4 Monday (subject to be announced)

Steps in getting to know the sounds
Look into each individual sound & describe how it is articulated in different parts of the mouth and throat
{ Consonant, vowels (segmentals)

Examine the aspect outside the segmentals, that is the sequences of sounds
{ Stress, intonation (suprasegmentals)
